The Battle of Jutland occurred between the Royal Navy’s Grand Fleet and the German High Seas Fleet on May 31 and June 1, 1916, as the German surface fleet attempted to break the British blockade. The engagement was the largest naval battle between 1815 and 1944. MacArthur Memorial Director Chris Kolakowski, whose great-grandfather was there as part of the Grand Fleet, will discuss the dramatic battle and analyze its impacts on the course of the First World War. This event is part of the MacArthur Memorial’s 2016 WWI Centennial Programing.
